Every sport has a star, though some sports have stars that basically outshine everyone else out there. When superstar athletes come and start challenging others, we are lucky to see them perform. When there are superstar athletes who challenge each other and then compete for the title of being the best athlete out there, then we get to see a real head to head and who is the best. GOAT debates start popping up on the internet and people cannot get enough of them.

In golf, there is one player who is still playing and has had quite the career, called Tiger Woods. Woods was a prodigy in golf and has had quite a career, though is in a bit of a slump recently.

Here is a brief overview of the rise and fall of Tiger Woods’ career.

The Superstar Prodigy

Woods was already more than promising in the 1990s, when his professional career was followed by everyone. Even in the amateur leagues, Woods was a talent to be on the lookout for. He won his first Masters tournament in 1997, at the age of 21. It was a great victory and one that put him on the maps. Actually, as soon as he turned professional, he signed with Nike, which was back in 1996. He was so promising that Nike didn’t wait a single second after he turned pro. 

In 1999, he won his second major, the PGA Championship. The year 2000 is seen by some as one of his best years, when he took almost all the tournaments, only missing the Masters, where he ended up fifth. He did win it in 2001, though. 

Middle Years and a Slump Period

Woods did okay in the first years of the 2000s, with only two years being problematic, 2003 and 2004, where he didn’t win any major tournament. However, if that is your definition of problematic, then you have succeeded in life, or in professional sports.

2005 was already a different story, with Woods winning two majors, and the same happened in 2006. 2007 and 2008 saw Woods win a single major each year, which is a good achievement for any golfer.

After that, Woods’ career started going downhill. He missed the last two majors of 2008 and his results were more than lackluster in the entirety of the 2010s, except two tournaments. He even stopped playing completely for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Resurrection and Accident

In 2018, at the PGA Championship, Woods was second, showing that the already “aged” golfer had more in him than people gave him credit for. In 2019, he won another Masters, after an 11 year drought and what people thought would be the end of his career. 

Woods had a car rollover on February 23, 2021. It was a serious accident and he had to miss most of the 2021 season due to the accident..
