We are mostly sedentary nowadays, with only a couple of exceptions, the people who walk and run almost daily, exercising as they move about. We forget that we need to move and that we should stay active. This is a huge problem and should be remedied as soon as possible.
There are many benefits to being active, for starters, not being stiff and out of shape, having the ability to go up a flight of stairs without losing your breath and stopping to grasp for dear life.
Here are some reasons why being active is really important.
Active Means Ready to Move
When we are active and are moving about all the time, we are used to doing things. Motion is necessary for us humans if we are to survive and stay healthy.
Being able to move on a regular basis and not just walk around, but also add some intensity to our motions, is going to help us in the long run, making us able to decide to move whenever we need to. This doesn’t mean just moving physically, but also being able to move in a metaphorical sense, to decide that action should be taken and then to undertake said action.
Active Means Healthy
Being physically active means that our bodies will be relatively healthy, definitely healthier than the body of a person who is just sitting. When we are sedentary, our tendons tend to get shorter and we lose not only flexibility, but strength in most parts of our bodies.
Some body parts get stiffer while others become elongated. That disbalance is afterwards much more difficult to fix and takes more effort than would ever be necessary if we were simply put, more active from the get go.
Mental Health Benefits From Activity
We all know that being physically active has some benefits for our mental health. However, we don’t really know what the said benefits are, mostly because we read these things somewhere and then immediately forget them.
Among the many benefits of working out and being active, the first ones that come to mind are confidence, increased happiness, stress relief, combatting depression, and many more. A clear mind is what we typically get after a good exercise, so we should move more if we are to stay present.
It Sets a Good Example
Our friends are more likely to trust us when we say that exercise is good for you if you show them that exercise is good for them, leading by example. This is a very good thing that people should try and put into practice more often. When we show someone the benefits of whatever on our own bodies and in our own lives, it makes that very claim much easier to believe and eventually put into practice.
Lots of active people are also very social. Activity naturally leads to us meeting new people, which in turn leads to socialization. This is important in this day and age where we spend most of our time on social media, rather than talking in person, actually communicating.
These are some of the benefits of staying active and why it is very important for us. Move as soon as you get the opportunity to, meaning right now!
